New Tokyo 2020 prints are a very little design dream

Scottish style studio Tom Pigeon has released 6 brand name brand-new screen prints commemorating Group GB’s crucial sports at the Tokyo 2020 olympics– and we want all 6 on our wall today.

There’s nothing we love more than a captivating poster (we’ve even compiled a list of our favourite poster designs) and these are certainly striking with their minimalist method and muted combination, in addition to a graphic nod to the Japanese flag’s red rising sun.

The designs take inspiration from the movements of professional athletes in 6 sports: sailing, biking, sports, gymnastics, rowing and swimming. The motion is conveyed through a series of abstract circles and lines, developed as a result of studying and sketching over photographs.

The Olympics has a particularly strong relationship with graphic design. Simply last month, 20 official posters were revealed for Tokyo 2020 Tom Pigeon’s Creative Director, informed Creative Evaluation they were motivated by classic posters from the 1960 s and 1970 s, and that this “dream collaboration” with Team GB has actually been “a truly amazing chance to explore our amazing athletes through colour, line and shape”.
